Brazil joins the Madrid Protocol

On 02 July Brazil acceded to the Madrid Protocol. Applicants of International applications will be able to designate Brazil from 02 October 2019. Those who own International registrations will also be able to add Brazil to their registration by filing a ‘subsequent designation’.

The Madrid Protocol permits the protection of a trade mark using a single application across 121 countries. With Brazil’s membership, the Madrid System contracts each of the world’s ten largest economies.
