Dr Cristina Penine

Cristina is Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney with extensive experience in advising businesses on their IP strategy, as well as drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications.  She is a physicist and computer scientist by background holding a BSc from Trent University in Canada and a PhD in Solar Physics from Cambridge University, UK. Prior to joining the IP profession in 2008, Cristina worked as a researcher in Canada, the USA (at the NASA Space Flight Centre) and Japan. 

Cristina advises clients ranging from early-stage businesses to in-house counsel and multinational corporations. She supports growing businesses with tailored IP advice that adds value and helps achieve their commercial objectives.

Throughout her career, Cristina has worked with inventions in a wide range of technologies, including computer-implemented inventions, AI, electronics, consumer products,  and medical devices. She has successfully represented clients in opposition procedures before the European Patent Office, managed substantial international portfolios, provided pragmatic advice on clearance and infringement matters, and carried out a large number of IP audits.

Cristina is an active member of the Licensing Executive Society (LES), and has been a part of the YMC LES and YMC Britain and Ireland Committees.

Cristina is a Director at ip21 based in our Cambridge office. She is leading on client development and international relations and is ip21’s Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Officer. Cristina is fluent in English and Romanian.
