Melanie is a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney, a European Trademark & Design Attorney, a Member of CITMA, INTA and ECTA, and accredited to appear before the European Trade Mark and Registered Design Offices as well as the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court. She is an INTA Committee member serving a second two-year term on the INTA Non-Traditional Marks Committee, and within that is currently the Chairman of the Europe and Asia Subcommittee.
Melanie has worked in both the Patent and the Trade Mark departments of ip21 gaining a wide range of experience in holistic Intellectual Property issues, and now primarily specialises in Trade Mark and Design matters. She represents clients ranging from start-up and early stage companies to global multinationals providing services and advice on all aspects of freedom to operate, rights registration, global portfolio management, enforcement, conflict resolution and sale/disposal.
She is a graduate of the University of East Anglia (UEA), with her first degree being a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic Engineering as well as being a Master of Science by Research in the fields of Robotics and Computer Vision. She was a Copenacre Indentured Apprentice with the MoD before working on a number of engineering projects, both in-country and abroad with NATO, following which she gained experience in private practice before joining ip21 in 2002.
Melanie has recently been awarded a Women in Law 2018 Award by Lawyer Monthly magazine.
